Ontario Safety Certificate: What You Need to Know
At V Group Auto, we make vehicle safety our top priority. If you’re buying, selling, or registering a vehicle in Ontario, you’ll likely need a Safety Standards Certificate (SSC)—commonly known as an Ontario Safety Certificate. Here’s everything you need to know to get your car certified and road-ready:
When Do You Need a Safety Certificate?
- Buying or Selling a Used Vehicle – When purchasing a used car, a safety certificate is required to register it in your name.
- Transferring Ownership – If you’re transferring ownership to another person (except in some family transfers), a safety certificate is necessary.
- Registering an Out-of-Province Vehicle – If you’re bringing a vehicle into Ontario, it must pass a safety inspection before registration.
How to Get an Ontario Safety Certificate?
- Book an Appointment – Visit V Group Auto, a licensed Motor Vehicle Inspection Station (DriveON (former MVIS)) in Holland Landing.
- Get a Professional Inspection – Our certified technicians will inspect key safety components, including brakes, tires, lights, suspension, and more.
- Receive Your Certificate – If your vehicle meets all safety standards, you’ll be issued a Safety Standards Certificate. If it doesn’t, we’ll guide you on the necessary repairs.
Certificate Validity – Valid for 36 Days – The certificate confirms the vehicle met safety requirements on the inspection date but does not serve as a warranty.
